This is the start of a new on-going series where I chronicle my efforts to learn Danish. Posts will be published twice a month as part of my regular posting cycle.
September 1-6:
The month started out slow. I got back into studying my flashcards and got a couple days’ practice with those. I also worked a little more in Complete Danish. I’m now in the final chapter with six pages to go!
My parents were in the middle of vacation so they were both home most of the time when I finished work in the morning. This gives a little more opportunity for us to try speaking Danish together. It’s not that much, but a little will go a long way. I was also able to ask them questions about concepts that came up in Complete Danish that I didn’t understand.
September 7-10:
I got a little more studying done with my flashcards. I also spent half an hour on the 7th updating the flashcards in Anki.
I’ve gone back and made new, more indepth flashcards. I have several different categories dedicated to different parts of speech (noun, verbs, etc.), rules about word order, aspects of Danish culture, and other topics covered in Complete Danish.
I also spent some more time on the 10th working on Complete Danish again. I have just the last two pages of the final chapter and then I’m finished the whole book. After I finally finish it, I want to start working on the exercises in Danish Tutor, which is from the same publisher, but first I want to set up a good weekly routine that’ll include other immersion methods.
September 11-13:
I really wanted to work some more on Complete Danish but never had the time or enough energy for it so I had to stick to studying my flashcards over the weekend. Hopefully I’ll get the book done in the next couple of days.
September 14-15:
I finally got through the last of Complete Danish. I also studied my flashcards on both days.
Goals for the rest of September:
- Begin working on exercises in Danish Tutor
- Continue studying the flashcards consistently everyday
- Update Anki with new flashcards with content from Complete Danish
- Finish watching Tælle til en, tælle til to on Netflix
